Plainwell - Marlene was born in Kalamazoo on December 12, 1935, the daughter of the late Jesse and Jenny (Bosma) VanSparrentak. She was a kind and loving woman who had a wonderful personality which made her a joy to be around. She believed in working hard and was employed by the Otsego School System as a bus driver for over thirteen years. She also worked at the Alamo Nursing Home for over nine years, and the Plainwell Walmart for many years. When not working, Marlene enjoyed sewing, knitting, making crafts and playing Bingo. She was a selfless person who always took the time to help those in need. Marlene was outgoing; she was always making friends, even later in life at the Emerald Park Apartments and Alamo Nursing Home. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves them with wonderful memories of a life well lived. On November 6, 1954, she married the love of her life Gerald Banks who preceded her in passing on February 19, 2004; they are together again! She was also preceded in passing by a son, Ricky Banks; great-granddaughter, Sierra Fetterolf. Marlene is survived by five children, Terry (Patti) Banks, Deborah (Steven) Boyer, Sheryl (Jeff) Pirrone, Sherry (Tom) Manning and Todd (Chris) Banks; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother, William VanSparrentak; nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on March 26, 2016, beginning at 11:00 AM, at the Otsego VFW, 124 N. Farmer St, Otsego, MI 49078. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan, c/o of Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home.
