Spitzner Sr., James Walter -

James Walter Spitzner Sr.

Kalamazoo - James Walter Spitzner Sr. was born into eternity with his Lord on March 4th, 2018. He was born to this world at home in Kalamazoo, MI on August 19, 1935, to Walter Elmer and Lela Pearl (Love) Spitzner. Visit with family and friends on Sunday, March 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church; 120 W. Morrell St. in Otsego. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Jim had three older siblings: Wilburn, Floris Sampley and Wanda Chase, who precede him in death. He attended Kalamazoo schools until he joined the Air Force in 1953. He was stationed in Florida prior to Okinawa where he became acquainted with Bobbie through correspondence. After his discharge from service he married Bobbie Dianne Uhrik on May 25, 1957. They have five children: James Walter Jr. (Debbie); John Edward (deceased) (Holly who lives in St. Augustine, FL); Joel Andrew (Kristina); Jeffrey Robert (Kimberly); and Tracy Dianne Fessenden (Stuart). The Lord blessed Jim and Bobbie with 11 grandchildren as well as 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Jim worked in the paper mills, then added a farm where he grew along with his children. He devoted 30 years to commercial janitor service, where he counseled many of those whom he supervised, including his own children. After retirement, Jim’s dream of traveling the USA was fulfilled. He especially loved playing pool in Texas! Jim’s spiritual life was the most important road map he left his family. He served as Elder for several terms at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, and again as Elder and Deacon at Doster Reformed Church. His quiet humbleness kept him from understanding why others looked up to him. Visit where you can sign his guest book and achieve a memory and photo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wings Home in Allegan and the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo.
